Best rooftop bars on Ibiza

We head up the stairs to find fabulous rooftop hideaways.

We all like to enjoy a bit of the high life, an injection of luxury into our lives to make our days a little more glamorous. There are certainly enough opportunities to experience this on Ibiza, from the glorious beach clubs to the high-end nightclubs. These places are often full to the brim with excitable holiday makers all wanting a seat or prime dancing spot.

When you want to rise above ground level, it is not always as easy as finding the nearest staircase and heading upwards. At the summit of some venues, breathtaking rooftop bars await, where you can take in the view, perhaps even watch a sunset, with a cocktail in hand.

We went to visit some of the best ones to save you the hassle. Here's where to go for a matchless rooftop experience, closer to the stars.

Aguas de Ibiza

The cocktail bar of the lifestyle & spa complex, Aguas de Ibiza is one the most glamorous locations on this list. Located in Santa Eularia, it is open from 22:30 to 2:00. The stylish chic surrounding of the rooftop area is decorated in locally made materials and offers an open sea view. Here you can sit back and look out to the beautifully blue Balearic sea. The bar itself serves premium cocktails (we recommend the Ibiza Sling) and has a wine list selected by the acclaimed sommelier Iván Talens.

ME Ibiza

The ME Ibiza Hotel is a place oozing with luxury and class. It is no surprise then that the rooftop bar of this five-star hotel is equally splendid. First of all, you have the all around 360-degree view of the sea and Ibiza countryside. Second, during the summer months, the rooftop bar often hosts parties you can enjoy while sipping on your drink from the comfort of the Balinese beds. You can also have a stroll around the infinity pool or enjoy the flavours of the rooftop restaurant, which serves a mixture of seafood and haute cuisine.

The Ninth

Hard Rock is a brand name that is known globally for its rock & roll style and cool atmosphere. The Hard Rock Hotel in Ibiza is no exception, a 5-star hotel with superb facilities. No surprise then that when they made their rooftop bar The Ninth, they went all out on this amazing space. This grand rooftop area, which holds 900 people, has perfect panoramic views of Playa d'en Bossa, Dalt Vila and Formentera. The height of this building makes you feel like you are standing on a cloud, taking in the spectacular Ibiza scenery. Stylishly furnished, the venue has a chic decor reminiscent of an expensive yacht. A cocktail made by the master bar staff will go down a treat whilst you watch the magical sunset from this beautiful environment.

Ocean Drive

A quiet location not far from the bustling streets of Ibiza Town, Marina Botafoch is one of the most glamorous areas of Ibiza. At one end of the marina is the upmarket 4-star hotel, Ocean Drive, a building known for its retro and art deco style. At the top of this hotel, the chill-out Sky Bar of Ocean Drive offers beautiful views of the Ibiza Old Town and Pacha nightclub with local and international DJs often spinning laid-back tunes. With Pacha only a two-minute drive around the corner, Ocean Drive is known for its high profile DJ guests, so you might end up sharing a cocktail with Hot Since 82 or Maceo Plex. This popular place is open for the full season from May until October, so you have plenty of time to enjoy it, also available for private functions.

Rio Bar

Located in the harbour of San Antonio, Rio Ibiza includes a bar with a welcoming environment and friendly staff. Heading upstairs, you can find their rooftop terrace, a perfect location to watch the golden Ibizan sunset whilst sipping on a refreshment from their premium cocktail and drinks menu. The lounge-type atmosphere of the Rio rooftop should be part of any Ibiza holiday. Being one of the newest venues on the island, it offers modern decor throughout, providing an all around exclusive experience. They also serve fantastic sushi dishes on the rooftop, prepared by a master chef, making a great evening meal.

Sa Punta

Next on our list is the brilliantly colourful bar that is part of Sa Punta in Talamanca. Its rooftop bar is known as Patchwork and offers a comfortable environment for you to kick back and enjoy the stunning ocean views. There is something warm and festive about this place, somewhere you can talk with friends for hours, lounging in their gorgeous seating area overlooking Dalt Vila. The drinks and cocktails here are made with care by the attentive staff and always served with a smile. Starting at 19:00 every day, it's the perfect place for a late afternoon spent soaking rays or evening chilling out since Sa Punta stays open until 03:00 in the morning. Patchwork is more than just a cocktail bar, however; it is also the first and only Lebanese restaurant on the island with a great selection of mezze and grill choices.

Sol House - Rooftop Nine

Situated in the San Antonio Bay area, Sol House is the exclusive Melia owned hotel. Rooftop Nine sits at the top of the stunning sunset destination and is run by Ibiza Rocks. The decor offers a taste of modern furnishings: white, clean and minimal, a setting that will put anyone in a relaxed mood. It features a fully stocked cocktail and drinks bar next to an infinity pool, a perfect combination for a San Antonio bay visit. This rooftop bar is particularly special because the Ibiza Rocks team go all out to curate exclusive events with top notch electronic music. This season Rooftop Nine has played host to a series of exclusive Mixmag live stream series as well as special pre-parties featuring world class DJs. During the week you can find the godfather of chill out legend Jose Padilla spinning good vibes only. Here you can catch a spectacular sunset on the Mediterranean, with views of the Ibiza coastline including the renowned sunset strip and marina of San Antonio.

Tira Pallá

One of the best-kept secret spots on Ibiza, Tira Pallá is a place where the locals have come to drink for over 20 years. A little past the Dalt Villa entrance drawbridge, head up a rather steep staircase to find a Spanish-style rooftop terrace filled with simple but comfortable seating area. Immersed in the stunning views of the historical Ibiza old town, you will enjoy classic rock, indie and Spanish tunes playing in the background. This rooftop bar is the perfect place to enjoy a cold beer at the end of a day touring around the island. The staff here are a real credit to the venue. Their friendly personalities make this place a pleasure for all types of guests. With expert cocktail skills second to none, they use fresh ingredients for all their drinks. Also, being only a 10-minute taxi ride to all the major clubs, it makes an ideal spot for a warm up drink before hitting the clubs.

Up Ibiza Sky Society

The Ushuaïa Hotel is one of the pinnacles of exclusiveness on Ibiza, so the rooftop bar on top of its tower is a glamorous and elegant one. This rooftop is a magical place where you can enjoy the cool air and a cocktail overlooking Ibiza. From this fabulous viewpoint, you can watch a golden sunset with views of Playa d'en Bossa, Dalt Vila and Formentera. You can also take a look at the parties going on downstairs at Ushuaïa the venue, enjoying the amazing spectacle of the lights and music below. The red and white colour scheme of the resort continues throughout the bar, simply decorated for a casual but chic vibe. Highly recommended whilst you are is their signature drink, the Ushuaïa Red, an energetic cocktail that will get you hyped for any night out in Playa d'en Bossa and beyond.
