Ibiza Cancer Fair 2008

There's a very, very important date to put into your Ibiza diaries

There's a very, very important date to put into your Ibiza diaries coming up soon. The two-yearly Ibiza Cancer Fair takes place this year on 14th December at 12.00 in its usual venue of the big 'Recinto Ferial' exhibition hall just outside Ibiza town on the main road to San Antonio.

Capricorn Dance Academy in Action

Organised by the Association Against Cancer of Ibiza and Formentera to raise funds solely for use on those two islands. In 2006 and 2007 alone over €100,000 has been spent on purchasing new equipment to detect tumours, new treatment chairs, contributions to anti-tobacco campaigns, economic help to patients and their families and much more.

Whilst we must never lose sight of the purpose of the fair, it is a great fun day out for all the family – Mum, Dad, the kids, and even the dog! There's never a dull moment from start to finish with entertainment provided by local dance schools, martial arts clubs and the island's professional singers and dancers all giving their time for free.

(It's a bloke - really!)

With dog beauty pageants, agility competitions, pony rides and Father Christmas himself, the four and two-legged family members are well provided for. Older children like me prefer browsing the stalls where bargains are to be had in home-made cakes and jam, second hand books and clothes, or maybe taking a Cava and smoked salmon break after spending all their money on the hoopla stall – it's harder than it looks.

Mmmmmm - Donuts!

An army of unpaid give their services willingly so that almost every centimo spent on this day will be used in the fight against cancer in Ibiza and Formentera. Well done everybody!
