Jazz Point Ibiza is once again bringing some of the biggest names on the international Jazz scene to perform here in Ibiza. This is the sixth annual Jazz Point Festival, running for five nights from 16 to 20 October.
To create these special yearly events, David Moss and Adam Lenox of the Ibiza Music Agency have collaborated with Joel Chriss Productions in New York, all dedicated to making our island an important part of the international Jazz scene.
The Festival kicks off on Thursday, 16 October, with three exciting events.
At 17:00 the Opening Party Jam Session will take place at WOM Radio Café, on the seafront in Santa Eulalia. The multifaceted Andrés Coll on his marimba will direct the Jazz Jam, joined by Tal Cohen on keyboard and Doug Weiss on upright bass, with special appearances by Omar Kabir on trumpet, Eric Person on alto saxophone, and Ricky Ford on tenor saxophone.
At 19:30, the celebration moves to the roof terrace of The Standard Hotel in Ibiza Town, where the renowned singer La Jose will perform with Luis Gallo on Spanish guitar. From 21:30, the night continues at The Standard’s Jara Restaurant, where many of the festival’s stars will be playing past midnight at the “Jazz Point Jam”.
On the following night, Friday 17 October at 20:30, the beat goes on in Ibiza Town at Teatro Ibiza - one of the island’s best-loved live music venues. Muriel Grossmann and her stellar quartet will have you swaying in your seat as they play an eclectic set of Muriel´s compositions.
In addition to Muriel on sax, the group includes Radomir Milojkovic on guitar, Abel Boquera on Hammond B3 organ, Uros Stamenkovic on drums, and - as special guest - Cristina Morales on percussion.
They will be joined by the Big Band Ciutat d’Eivissa for a powerful second set with a guest appearance by Omar Kabir on trumpet.
On Saturday 18 October, Jazz Point returns to Teatro Ibiza at 21:00 for the “New York City/Ibiza Jazz Explosion”. It will feature Ricky Ford and Eric Person on saxophone, Omar Kabir (trumpet), Tal Cohen (keyboard), Doug Weiss (bass), and Marc Miralta (drums). The ensemble will dazzle attendees with the music of all-time legendary Jazz composers such as Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Thelonious Monk, and more.
The Festival continues on Sunday and Monday with thrilling concerts at the ME Ibiza Hotel, on the waterfront near Santa Eulalia. It’s the perfect setting for the final two days of world-class Jazz beneath the stars in magical Ibiza.
On Sunday, 19 October at 19:30, “La Jose & Friends” will feature the famous singer backed up by Eric Person, Doug Weiss, Tal Cohen, and special guests. The following night at 19:30, virtuoso pianist Tal Cohen will bring the festival to a close with a special solo concert.
In addition to these amazing shows, some of the performers will be giving “Master Classes” for local musicians at the cultural centre Can Ventosa, in Ibiza Town, on Saturday 18 October from 12:00. In these open sessions, the musical masters will share their wealth of knowledge about Jazz music and the art of performing at the highest level.
