Activities to keep you fit in June

Summer is coming, so it's time to get to work on that beach body

It's June, the weather is gorgeous and now is a perfect time to get out and be active in Ibiza. We have an amazing choice of sports and activities to keep you fit, while enjoying the wonderful scenery and delightful land and marine habitats of the island.

As we emerge from our Covid-19 enforced hibernation, many of sports activities are reopening now and preparing for the summer ahead, with an eye on adapting to the new social distancing measures. So, whether on two feet or four, on the water or under it, we have something to offer everyone. Let's get out there!

If you want to get out and explore the island on foot but don't know your way around or are experienced but just want some company on the road, Running Ibiza are back, pounding the streets, 7 days a week from 6:30am to 7pm, for group or individual runs.

Group runs, of up to 20 people, include the weekly Wednesday morning trail run, between 6 and 9km, and the weekly 6.5km Ibiza Town group run on Saturday mornings and are a great way to discover new routes and make new friends.

Interested in joining in? Have a look at run leader Donna's Running Ibiza page and send her an enquiry.

Ibiza is a beautiful island to explore, with remote trails and breath-taking viewpoints, some of which are virtually impossible to navigate without the help of an experienced and knowledgeable guide. Walking Ibiza knows the island intimately and offers a range of trails, suitable for groups of all levels, departing from meeting points at various locations around the island.

The options are numerous, so head to their website calendar for the latest news on planned excursions to suit your level and your needs.

June is the ideal month to get up early and get out on to the course for a round of golf. The days are long, the air is cool and the walk along one of the scenic Ibiza Golf courses is a pleasure in itself. Finish off your challenging round with a long, lazy lunch, in the delightful Hoyo 19 Restaurant, and you will be ready for a very well-deserved siesta. Book a round of 9 or 18 holes, or even treat yourself to the full VIP experience, here.

Horse riding

Ibiza Horse Valley in San Juan are currently offering Half Day Experiences, which start in the late afternoon to avoid the worst of the summer heat. Riding is a perfect way to catch a lovely golden sunset over the rural Ibizan countryside, while giving a little exercise to the well-cared for but previously abandoned and mistreated horses. Riding tours are available for all levels but for the over 14's only. For more details, have a look at the Ibiza Horse Valley page.

Tennis lovers will be delighted to know that the game is alive and well on in Ibiza. Viva Tennis in San Antonio has five full-sized, floodlit courts; two clay and three artificial grass, and, although only available only for singles matches at the moment, they are in perfect condition after closure during lockdown. Coaching sessions are also available, by appointment only of course… Contact Viva Tennis here to book a court.

Scuba diving

June is an excellent month for exploring beneath the waves, especially as our waters are absolutely crystal-clear right now. Scuba Ibiza Diving Centre, in Marina Botafoc, is up and running for the season, with classes for both beginners and experienced divers. For the time being, excursions depart in the mornings only and, due to restrictions imposed by the current State of Alarm, there is a group limit of 6 persons for 50% of the dive boat. The experienced Scuba Ibiza instructors will know all of the best spots to take you right now.

Stand Up Paddle

Now that the Mediterranean is settling into its mid-summer calm, it's the perfect time to explore the rugged Ibizan coastline, while working on your core strength and balance. An ideal, safe activity for families and friends, paddle surfing has exploded over recent years and its popularity continues to grow here on Ibiza. SUP Paradise, San Antonio and Paddle Surf Centre, Cala Vadella are both back on the water now, offering excursions for small groups, with excellent guidance and safety. Click on the links to check out their pages for details of classes and how to book.

Over on the east coast, at Es Figueral, Kayak Ibiza offers traditional kayaks and stand up paddle boards, perfect for cruising the pristine waters of the Tagomago Island natural marine reserve. This beautiful stretch of coastline can be best enjoyed by guided snorkelling or sunset trips on board Kayak Ibiza's craft and are available all year round. They even offer full moon excursions every month too. Get in touch here and find out what they can do for you.
