Ibizacinefest, the international film festival for independent cinema on Ibiza, reinvents itself on its fifth anniversary.

The fifth edition will be held from February 26 to March 7 with an extensive virtual and face-to-face programme that will begin with the premiere in Ibiza of the film ‘El Buzo'.

Despite the alarming figures of the increase in coronavirus cases in the Pitiusas, the Ibizacinefest film festival directed by the Catalan filmmaker and producer based in Ibiza, Xavi Herrero, will take place for its fith anniversary in 2021, keeping the dates announced months ago, from February 26 to March 7.

In addition, it has been reinvented due to capacity restrictions and limitations to stop the pandemic by having a mixed format. Therefore, practically all of the 87 films in the programme can be seen on the Internet platform Filmin, also allowing the festival to reach all of Spain.

This year's programme is very broad as the interest in participating in the festival is growing and comes from all over the world. This year there are 28 different nationalities among the selected projects.

The programme includes five national premieres of feature films and 14 of short films. The 88 titles that are programmed in the 2021 edition are divided into the sections official (8) and parallel (3), with absolute gender equality: 44 female and 44 male directors.
