Tinie Tempah was back at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel for what was the busiest night of the season so far along with the Kasabian and Chase & Status gigs!
After the warm-up sets by the resident DJs, including a demonstration by Doorly of how to deejay with the nose (!!!), it was time for Modestep. The dubstep/electronic rock band from London have four singles out and an album on the way (Evolution theory, slated to be released in september)!
Their highly entertaining show included some of their own material like "To the stars" (my favourite), "Show me a sign" or the hit single "Sunlight" (with which they finished) mixed with a few covers adapted to their own frantic style (from "Levels" by Avicii to "Killing in the name" by R.A.T.M.)... so much fun!
As he said throughout the show, Ibiza Rocks is nowadays one of the summer dates Tinie Tempah is looking forward the most every year and it's easy to see why. The main difference with his two previous visits is that this time the rapper didn't bring his band (which apparently was sacked some weeks ago) so it was just him and DJ Charlesy!
We heard all the big tunes from his debut Disc-overy (special mention to the deafening sing-along during "Written in the stars"), some of his collaborations with other artists ("Earthquake" by Labrinth and "Hitz" by Chase & Status), one from his last EP Happy birthday ("You know what") and also gave us a preview of his second album entitled Demonstration which should be out in november ("Drinking from the bottle" and "Mosh pit", this one already played at last year's sold-out gig). Shame he didn't bring a full live band but pretty impressive all the same, confetti blowers and smoke machines included!
The summer is passing fast but there are still some biggies to come, starting with the reunited Happy Mondays next week! Tickets available here...
And as always, more pics and videos in our forums - thanks McRackin.
