Ibiza Port Work in Progress

The massive capital project to expand and improve the port area

The massive capital project to expand and improve the port area around the Botafoch dyke is now entering its second phase. The area – which can be seen from Ibiza town looking out towards Talamanca – has been a hive of activity with some unusual sea going vessels to-ing and fro-ing over the winter months.

The first stage of the project involved dredging the harbour bottom to make it deeper and now the construction of the 'foundations' for the new jetties begins. A gigantic barge, the DN143, has just been towed in from Valencia carrying 18,000 tonnes of stone, which will form the base for giant concrete blocks on which the jetties will sit.

So far, the work is on time, and will be finished by summer 2012.
