A year after the controversial Ecotax was first introduced we can reveal that many of the projects it was designed to pay for are paralysed because of 'red tape.'
Still unfinished are the demolition of unauthorised buildings in Cala d´en Serra, the protection of the sand dunes, putting the electricity cables underground in the Salinas area, and the purchase of land in the Cala d'Hort Natural Park, to name just a few. The tourist councillor, Josep Marí Ribas, admitted that the projects had not yet been executed because of the inability to overcome all the administrative obstacles placed in their way.
Is it any wonder that hoteliers, who also have the administrative burden of
collecting the tax, are so set against it.
