Ibiza Roots Festival returns with Alpha Blondy + Calle 13

A chance to experience world music in Ibiza…

Ibiza Roots Festival have announced that they will be bringing the festival back to the white isle on the 15th July and a second date on the 20th August at Recinto Ferial de Ibiza.

Following on from a great headline booking last year in the form of The Skatalites, the festival outdoes itself this year by announcing that African reggae heavyweight Alpha Blondy will be headlining part two of the festival in August.

The Ivorian reggae star has been making music for over thirty years and in that time has gained international notoriety and popularity not just for the quality of his music, but his outstanding ability to sing and write music in multiple languages. Alpha Blondy's style of music and use of more than one language complements the general ethos of the island – uniting all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds in order to have an unforgettable party experience. Joining him will be his band, The Solar System.

Also announced are Calle 13, a Puerto Rican band formed by stepbrothers René Pérez Joglar who calls himself Residente and Eduardo José Cabra Martínez, who calls himself Visitante and their half-sister Ileana Cabra Joglar aka PG-13. Check out this video of them performing recently... they are the number 1 band in Latin America.

However, it's not just about reggae music. The festival also incorporates other genres including Latin, folk, rock and rap so expect to see a pretty diverse crowd of music lovers! This festival is shaping up to be one of the great events in the Ibiza calendar this year, with promises of more artists, performances of theatre, dance and visual arts coming soon.

Tickets for the first festival date are €25 and will be available from the following locations: Ibiza: Delta Discos, Savia / Puerto : Closer (next to Burger King, port) / Santa Eulalia: Disquería Holiday y Guaraná / San Carlos : Las Dalias / San José: Es Racó Verd / San Jordi: Can Jordi / Santa Gertrudis: Musset / San Antonio: Tattoo Mystic (ex Inem).

Make sure you get your tickets as soon as possible – there aren't many opportunities to experience world music on the island and with Alpha Blondy headlining, you're certainly going to witness something special.
