New Releases to Check in May

6 of them, to be precise. Spoil yourself!

We've been running our regular Album of the Week column for a while now, featuring recommended LPs from the electronic-focused world that we can't help but talk about. Sadly though, given a greater number of records are released every seven days than people inhabit many South Pacific islands, this only scratches the surface.

Not least as there's a lot more to bleeps, beats, and synths than long-form efforts alone. Singles and EPs are, of course, the lifeblood of these genres, and as such it seems only right to afford a little editorial space to the key cuts scheduled for said formats, all of which will be winding their way to a store near you this month.

Deniz Kurtel - The Way We Live - The Singles

First up, on May 7th, Wolf + Lamb's Deniz Kurtel gives us a taster of her next album (released in June) by offering out The Way We Live – The Singles. Three tracks are included therein, with Tanner Ross, Jules Born, PillowTalk, and Voices of Black all making appearances.

Nikola Gala - Only

On the same day we'd also advise investigating Nikola Gala's Only, dropping on the one and only Rekids. Ryan Elliot, arguably one of the finest faces on the scene right now, turns in a great remix on the flip of this tasty little two tracker crammed with wonderfully well-executed techno that gives more than a subtle nod to the Detroit homeland.

Spencer Parker - Tokyo House Undergound: There Are A Few Things In My Life

Moving forward and on May 9th Spencer Parker, who unveiled his valiant debut album A Gun For Hire last year, is back in full effect with the similarly impressive EP, Tokyo House Undergound: There Are A Few Things In My Life. Not just a stupidly long title, it's also a damn good outing of three sturdy house tunes (including two re-workings by Toulouse's Patrice Leiris) on the Japanese imprint Apt. International.

Rick Wade - New Artful Division Imprint

Even further down the line and the following week (so that's May 15th for those sans diary) and Motor City man Rick Wade will help launch a brand new UK imprint called Artful Division. Quite the hands across the Atlantic moment then, expect the kind of deep house sounds typical of England's Midlands region.

Ben Sims & Kirk Degiorgio - Machine

As if all that wasn't enough we've actually saved the two best for last. Arriving simultaneously with the latter is the brand spanking new (and we do mean spanking) 12” from UK don Ben Sims. Together with Kirk Degiorgio the esteemed techno veteran has been running Motor, a London party dedicated to new music, for some time now. The pair have now set up a label under the same name and the first outing is Machine.

DJ W!ld - I'm Not Human

In contrast less dark drums and more house filth will be present on DJ W!ld's forthcoming album, and May 18th sees our first taster of the contents therein. The French underground hero drops his I'm Not Human EP, which is certainly the kind of repetitive dirt everyone in this office usually looks forward to. Plenty to be going at there then, we've just got time to mention that former Album of the Week crew Walls unveil what promises to be an essential remix package of the LP we fell in love with, Coracle, via the ever-impressive Kompakt on May 28th. A slice of dancefloor electronica worthy of our closing recommendation then, let's leave it at that.
