Ibiza Money Matters

Even on hippie, hedonist, Bohemian Ibiza none of us can get very far without the odd cash injection

Even on hippie, hedonist, Bohemian Ibiza none of us can get very far without the odd cash injection. So here’s a few snippets of filthy lucre news.

Pere Palau, the President of the Island Council has just taken delivery of a brand spanking new official car. It’s an Audi A6 valued at a cool €49,000!

Lucky residents of Ibiza will find the cost of sea travel much cheaper next year. As from 11th January (an odd date) they’ll get a whopping 45% discount on the price of a ticket to the other islands or the mainland.

Talking of sea travel, ferry company Balearia have just announced that their turn-over will surpass €100 million for 2005. This is the first time they’ve ever achieved this figure, but carrying over 2 million passengers hasn’t half helped them.

Finally, hard-working government employees who have had the misfortune to be stationed in Ibiza will receive and enormous 38% pay increase to help them endure life here. Backdated to September 2004 they’ll receive a mighty lump sum in this month’s pay packet which will surely compensate them for sitting around drinking coffee all day or taking a piece of paper for a five-hour walk round the office!
