Amnesia brings us Together again

Opening party for the bass rave.

With the laser beams and smoke machines at the ready, super-club Amnesia welcomed ravers across the island to join in for the opening party of weekly bass night Together. The party spilt over the club's two dance floors offering double the music and double the energy.

The night began in the Club room under the influence of Pukka Up and their resident DJs James iD and DAYL playing a back to back set. Perfect for breaking in the newbies to a somewhat acquired taste genre, their set combined core drum 'n' bass qualities with more popular electronic dance music styles and house influences.

A highlight mix from the set had to be Cloonee's The Ciggie. The tune blends samples from the classic soul of Ben E King's Stand By Me with the topline beat to r'n'b modern classic Eve and Gwen Stefani's Let Me Blow Ya Mind. Name a more unusual pairing I dare you.

Meanwhile, in the terrace, the DJ booth hosted London mixologist Dimension. Staying true to drum 'n' bass roots, he had the crowd hanging on his every beat drop.

Waves of energy consumed the dancers below as he dropped tracks like Desire, the product of a collaboration with fellow Brit Sub Focus.

Skepsis was a name of interest to me. Having not been totally sold on the recordings, I certainly was from the live set.

His latest release Signals along with SKUE-K was his opening statement. Tight bass lines complemented by distorted electronica blessed ravers throughout the set.

Dancers piled in to witness Wilkinson take to the decks in a b2b with Sub Focus and the ever-growing energetic crowd were not disappointed.

The set featured an array of his tracks from new to old and even a nod to the opening night itself dropping The Beatles tune Come Together into the mix - a track guaranteed to be chanted back by the crowd.

Overall Wilkinson delivered his signature style of powerful vocals with euphoric lyrics supported by explosive drops and basslines.

While Chase & Status was not the final act of the night it was the climax for most ravers. The duo was joined by an MC that enchanted the crowd into a state of pure excitement whilst heavy bass lines and distortion bounced around the room.

This was definitely one for the hardcore drum 'n' bass lovers and love it they did. With every track, the production intensified creating what felt like an alternate dimension from reality.

Channeling the urban underground sounds of London was this tune: Roll The Dice with Jamaican dancehall vibes and an air of funk in between the beat drops. Oh yes.

Together takes place at Amnesia every Tuesday until 17 September so you can find yourself amidst the crowds dancing to some of the hottest acts in bass. Have a look at the full season line-up and dates below.
